Evaluation from Cindy:
We liked the homestay family- they were friendly and they took us to Lake Chapala one day. The school was small and nice, no ait conditioning though, just fans in the classrooms.
Evaluation from Midge:
Erik, the teacher was great. The trips to Guadalajara and the Refugio with the Erik was really good. I liked the flexibility of the schools hours, and everyone was so helpful. The interchange with he English student was a go way to practice, a I loved the fresh fruit snacks I had every day. I've really improved my Spanish.
Evaluation from JoelAB:
Thanks to the school for taking me on, as I called two days before arriving in Mexico and they set up a great program for me. The teacher took me into Guadalajara, talked lots and we played games such as scrabble. 4 hours a day with Erik was excellent and I'm sure my Spanish has really improved. Well done Culturlingua!
Evaluation from Marilyn1:
Everyone was so warm and friendly at the school. I really enjoyed the classes that Laura and Adolfo gave me, I felt they really worked hard on my classes and they really helped me to improve my Spanish in the two weeks I was at the school. There was nothing that the staff at the school couldn't do for me- and I especially liked the fresh coffee and fruit bought to me in my class everyday. A nice touch! The whole trip was made by the homestay family. Señora Angelina and her family were so nice, I really felt included in her family and I definately put into practice the Spanish that I was learning. Tlaquepaque is a wonderful town too, with loads to see and do. I have really enjoyed my time. Thanks to you all!
Evaluation from GailSK:
I walked into my first class at Culturlingua Language School knowing just two words of Spanish… hola and gracias. After two weeks of private lessons, I was conversing with confidence in the market, in shops and with my new friends. I give credit to my attentive teachers and my homestay family for pushing me to speak Spanish all the time. The atmosphere at the school is relaxed, fun and friendly. I strongly recommend Culturlingua to anyone wanting to immerse themselves in Mexican culture while learning Spanish. My experience exceeded all of my expectations.
Evaluation from nataliewilson:
In two weeks I have really improved my Spanish. Adolfo and Fabiola are great teachers. I have enjoyed having my classes out in the garden as well as being taken into downtown Guadalajara for class. Tlaquepaque is a wonderful base to stay in too. Very safe, with lots of tourist police patrolling. Pleanty to do and great weather every day (in March!) The homestay family were so friendly and accomodationg- it was a shame they only spoke Spanish- but it made me really understand what was being said... both in the class and outside the class. Well done Fabiola, Adolfo, CArmen and Greg for a wonderful time.
Evaluation from alilin:
I came to visit Guadalajara with my daughter who is almost three. I was worried that it would be difficult to travel here with such a small girl and to go to Language classes with her. It was not too difficult at all to be here with her. My classes at the language school were wonderful. My daughter was able to be with me or play in the garden at the school. The teachers were so much fun for her. They played with her and everyone brought her children’s movies to watch. I think she actually got a little spoiled by everyone. She has started to speak a little in Spanish. I went to school for four weeks and learned a ton. My teachers Fabiola and Adolfo are both so smart and talented. They taught me grammar as well as talked to me about history, culture, famous books, art, and many other very interesting things. It was always very interesting and fun to come to class. I also loved meeting new people from the United States and other countries that come here to learn Spanish. It is always fun to talk to others about our cultural differences.
Evaluation from marys:
I enjoyed my time at the school, even if it involved work! Our trips out of the school were good and I liked going to the art museum in Zapopan with my teacher- I wouldn't have done this on my own. My painting classes were fun and the opportunity to practice Spanish during the art and in the interchange with other students was good. Tlaquepaque is a very nice place to stay in and Culturlingua has been a very good experience.
Evaluation from DavidThompson:
My week long stay was simply GREAT. I felt unsure when choosing a Spanish school, but Culturlingua proved to be the perfect choice. The teachers are patient, understanding and really friendly. If you need anything the secretaries; Miriam and Carmen are wonderful- they went with me into town to buy some things and Famiola took me into Guadalajara during one of my classes. Greg collected me from the airport, so I didnt have to worry about anything and the homestay familiy were really the icing on the cake; really friendly, great Spanish practice and super food! I cannot recommend Culturlingua highly enough. They even have a freephone number to call and ask questions!
Evaluation from Lori_SanDiego:
I first began my lessons at Culturlingua Tlaquepaque in March 2009. Since then, I have been back 3 more times! Greg, the owner, is very accommodating and will arrange a situation specifically suited to your needs and does everything possible to make the experience easy and enjoyable. Adolfo has been my teacher each time and he tailored the classes to fit my goals, whether it was working on verb conjugation or developing my listening skills or working on getting rid of my "gringa" accent. Above and beyond the classroom experience, you might also go on sightseeing excursions to learn about the history of Tlaquepaque, Guadalajara and Jalisco, as well as learn about Mexican culture in general. All this for an incredible value! In addition, the experience of staying in Tlaquepaque couldn't be better. People are friendly, there is fantastic food and you can walk anywhere you need to go!
Evaluation from AmyPrice:
I've just got back from a two week course at Culturlingua in Tlaquepaque... Nestor & Raul, my teachers; Senora Klaudia, my homestay;Carmen & Miriam, the co-ordinators and Greg, the owner made me feel great about my trip. Tlaquepaque is a really wonderful place with its arts and crafts- there's always something going on in the town. My clases were exactly what I needed to improve my Spanish and the co-ordinators were really, really friendly outside the class. I know you read a lot of these ratings and wonder about them, but I can only say that I would really, really recommend this school as it has been a truly great experience- I'll be coming back!
Evaluation from SamMcDonald:
I've just come back from 2 weeks in Tlaquepaque. It´s a charming and lovely place where I felt very happy. Spanish classes were very good. My two teachers- Sandy and Ocatvio were both excellent- but in different ways. Taking private classes really suited me as we really managed to study a lot, but we also got out and saw some really nice places too. I felt comfortable because my teachers went out with me which was very important. Finally, it's hard to describe, but the school has got the environment right. I just felt at home, from the moment I walked into the school. Well worth studying here and in Tlaquepaque!!
Evaluation from cliffordmadgab:
I just finished 4 weeks at Culturlingua (Feb. 22-March 19, 2010) and can unequivocally recommend both the school and the family with whom I stayed. The teachers I had, Adolfo and Eric, were excellent, especially Adolfo who went out of his way to accommodate my needs and was very helpful in introducing me to much more than the classroom. We routinely took a bus and went to the center of Guadalajara or Tonala where he educated me in the history, the customs and the culture of the area. Or we just hung out in Tlaquepaque visiting local areas of interest and stores with incredible handicrafts. It was very refreshing to have someone interested in teaching, not in force feeding so that I could pass some test. Spanish in the streets is far superior to Spanish in the classroom. In addition, Miriam, the administrative assistant was incredibly attentive to any desire or question I might have. She is a jewel. And the school is to be congratulated on its flexible approach to the learning of the language. Finally, my homestay family which consisted of father (Raphael), mother (Gloria), and sons (Juan & Roberto, both in their 40s) was gracious and helpful. Not a day passed when I didn't have the opportunity to practice speaking Spanish with them for 2 hours or more. And often other family members would be around and all were so nice to speak and interact with me. I highly recommend asking to stay with this family if you come to Tlaquepaque.
Evaluation from chicago50:
I took a two week spanish course in Tlaquepaque, Mexico. CulturLingua (culturlinguagdl.com) was an excellent school for me. The teachers and staff took excellent care of me. I think the most important point I would like to make is I DID learn Spanish from my experience there. And YES, the school is a top quality Spanish school. 1 on 1 teaching is an excellent way to learn a new language but the student must to be ready to learn. I couldn't hide behind other students. I took 5 hours of 1 on 1 class per day. At the end of the day, I was ready for a beer! But that is what I wanted; to learn a lot in a short period of time. Greg the principle/director was excellent, he was always asking if he could do more for me or what he could do for me to learn more! The staff is the best bar none. They would always answer my questions and I never felt neglected. The city of Tlaquepaque is beautiful and the people are very nice. I had numerous occassions to practice my spanish with the local folks. I highly suggest to do the home stay, it made a difference for me. I didn't have the chance to sit back and not learn. I was always speaking Spanish. Also, try to stay away from English speaking people. I did have an English speaking student in my house on my second week and found myself speaking more English than I wanted to. If you want the camaraderie then you probably will not use your full learning potential. I had wireless internet in the house of my host family. You'll need to ask if your host family has wireless internet. Make sure you go for walks in the central part of town (Tlaquepaque), go to downtown Guadalajara, and travel to other states if you have the time over the weekends. I went to Lake Chapla and to the surrounding area. Taxis are relatively inexpensive and buses are very inexpensive. I did have a chance to see 2 other schools in Tlquepaque and I prefer the school that I attended. I had access to computers at the Spanish School and was able to call home via skype. Make sure to bring your own headset with mic. I love the area because the weather is beautiful (warm in the summer and refreshing in the winter), coming from Chicago, the weather was perfect. Over all I give the school 5 out of 5 stars!!!
